Race Retro 2011
Much of the event takes place within the huge halls where precious, lovingly restored vehicles are on display, with experts on hand eager to discuss the finer points of mechanical and bodywork renovation of their particular pride and joy.
Our fleet manager Barry (an ex-biker) took time off from scooter letting to go and ogle the Triumph bikes and came back with lots of photos, especially of his dream machine, the Triumph Bonneville. He was also impressed by ‘The Rocket’ an awesome looking beast that competed for the world speed record.
It was the 50th Anniversary of the birth of the E-Type Jaguar, with some beautiful examples on show.
Despite the rather damp and drizzly weather (well it was February after all) there was plenty to see and do outside the halls and it was well worth braving the elements. There were icons from Rallying’s illustrious past such as the Aston Martin V8 Rally GT, ex-works Audi quattros, Ford RS200, MG 6R4, Lancia 037, Peugeot 205T16, Porsche RSR, Rover V8 SD1, Manta 400, TR7V8, and the Rothmans Escort. There was also Classic Karting, and the Wall of Death, not for the faint-hearted.
It’s a large site and you need several hours to see it all, both inside and out so, as always, people were glad to have Fair Mobility there with our scooters to make the most of their day.
